Our Story
Urban Studies Lab is a Bangkok-based research institute and consultancy that was founded by a group of urban practitioners and academics who want to make systematic impact to the cities and communities.
USL draws on its broad range of experience and expertise in the fields of urban planning & development, architecture & design, community engagement, project management, communications, and the environmental and social sciences,
to offer a unique and holistic approach to urban studies research.
We are a young, passionate, and progressive organization, and proud partner of the Ford Community Center (FCC) located in the historic neighborhood of Nang Loeng.

Our Approach
Designing and Testing Urban Solutions in Real-World Conditions
Cities are shaped by complex interactions between people, places, policies, and processes. These dynamics create unique local conditions that demand context-sensitive solutions rather than generic models.
Urban Studies Lab (USL) exists to navigate these realities and translate them into integrated, testable urban interventions. USL designs and tests solutions in real-world conditions to generate practical evidence, learning, and models that can be adopted, adapted, or scaled by others. We work where policy meets place moving ideas from concept to implementation.
Our Approach: Urban Living Lab
USL subscribes to the Urban Living Lab (ULL) model. Every project is treated as part of an ecosysteminvolving five key actors: local communities, government, corporate partners, NGOs, and academia. Rather than positioning ourselves as sole experts, we invite these actors to collaborate as partners. Depending on the challenge, we assemble interdisciplinary teams to conduct research, analysis, co-design, prototyping, and implementation.
Through iterative testing, stakeholder engagement, and continuous learning, we refine interventions until they are operationally viable and socially grounded.
