พี่บอย หรือศรุติ พรมจันทร์ เดิมเคยค้าขายกับราชการ มีพาร์ทเนอร์ของร้านคือบก.ปู แต่การเปิดร้านกาแฟ Embassy Coffee แห่งนี้เกิดจากความฝันของพี่บอย และได้โอกาสมาเปิดร้านที่นี่เพราะอากงมีที่อยู่ที่หลานหลวงพอดีและความผูกพันกับนางเลิ้งอีกด้วย และด้วยความชอบสื่อสาร พบปะผู้คน เมื่อจังหวะและเวลาลงตัวได้เปิดร้านกาแฟจึงมีกาแฟเป็นสื่อในการเชื่อมโยงกับผู้คน เพราะกาแฟเป็นอะไรที่สากล ร้านพึ่งเปิดมาได้ปีกว่า บก. ปูรักการทำเบเกอรี่ พอดีกับที่พี่บอยเชี่ยวชาญด้านการชงเครื่องดื่มและทำอาหาร เมนูเบเกอรี่ในร้านเปลี่ยนไปเรื่อย ๆ เนื่องจากบก.ปูทำเมนูได้หลากหลายเกินกว่าที่จะทำเมนูเดิมทุกวัน และใช้วัตถุดิบตามฤดูกาล ทำทุกอย่างเหมือนทำกินเอง
ความสุขของพี่บอยคืออยากให้ผู้คนได้เรียนรู้กับเมืองเก่าในย่านนี้ พี่บอยเปรียบได้กับเจ้าบ้านที่ทำอาหารและเครื่องดื่มร่วมสมัยที่คอยแนะนำนักท่องเที่ยวต่างชาติ ซึ่งเป็นลูกค้ากลุ่มหลักของพี่บอยเนื่องจากร้านกาแฟแห่งนี้ก็เป็นโฮสเทลอีกด้วย พี่บอยชอบร้อยพวงมาลัย เมื่อลูกค้าชาวต่างชาติได้มาที่แห่งนี้ก็จะมีพวงมาลัยที่พี่บอยร้อยเองเป็นตัวเชื่อมในการพานักท่องเที่ยวต่างชาติให้เดินทางไปไหว้พระที่วัดในพระนคร
พี่บอยทำทุกอย่างเพื่อให้ร้านอยู่ได้นาน ๆ ไม่อยากให้เป็นร้านที่ฉาบฉวย ความสุขของลูกค้าคือหน่วยวัดผลกำไรของพี่บอยไม่ใช่จำนวนแก้วกาแฟ เรียกได้ว่าความฝันของพี่บอยเป็นจริงแล้ว แต่เป้าหมายต่อไปของพี่บอยคือการทำให้ร้านนี้อยู่ได้อย่างยั่งยืนและเข้าใจตัวตนของพี่บอย
พี่บอยบอกว่าย่านนางเลิ้งเหมือนกำลังนอนหลับอยู่ การค้าขายในย่านนี้เหมือนทำเป็นส่วนหนึ่งของชีวิตตามกำลังที่มีมากกว่าทำเพื่อการแข่งขันเพื่อผลกำไร พี่บอยหวังว่าวันหนึ่งสถาปัตยกรรมในย่านนี้จะได้รับการฟื้นฟูและร้านรวงที่หลับไหลจะกลับมาครึ้กครื้นอีกครั้ง แม้แต่ร้านของพี่บอยเองก็ตั้งใจออกแบบเองให้กลมกลืนกับสถาปัตยกรรมดั้งเดิมของพื้นที่รอบ ๆ แต่ก็สอดแทรกความร่วมสมัยและลักษณะงานจากตะวันตกเข้าไปด้วยเช่นกัน นับว่าเป็นส่วนผสมของอดีต ปัจจุบัน และอนาคตของนางเลิ้งอย่างกลมกล่อมเหมือนกับรสชาติของเครื่องดื่มที่พี่บอยชงและเบเกอรี่ที่บก. ปูทำนั่นเอง
Saruti Promchan, or P Boy, used to be a trader. He is now an owner of The Embassy Coffee Larnluang with Editor Pu. His grandfather happened to have a shophouse in Larnluang, compiling with a strong bond he has with Nang Loeng, he was finally living the dream being an owner of The Embassy Coffee Larnluang.
He loved connecting to people and coffee is the best way for people to connect as it is international. The coffee place has been opened for more than a year. While Editor Pu loves baking, P Boy loves brewing and cooking. The menu keeps changing through seasons and preferences. Editor Pu could bake too many menus to stick to just one permanent set of bakeries. They bake, cook, and brew like they do it for themselves.
Saruti found happiness in telling stories of this old city as his main customers are foreigners. His coffee shop is the bridge for tourists to the locals. From bakeries to flower arrangement, all of his works have connected people to the authentic taste of Nang Loeng and Phra Nakhon areas.
Saruti aimed for sustainability. He didn’t want to be like fireworks that illuminated for just a moment and gone. The happiness from his customers were the profits not the number of the coffee cups he sold. It is safe to say his dream has come true, but his next goals are to keep the coffee shop ages like fine wines and for people to see the identity of this place.
When talking about Nang Loeng, Saruti said Nang Loeng was asleep. The area was not busy. People worked just to make a living but not for competition. He was hoping that the architecture in this area would be renovated and all these sleeping shophouses would awaken again. He designed the coffee shop by himself to blend it into the area but also with a hint of western contemporary styles. The Embassy Coffee Larnluang is a good mix of the past, the present, and the future, just like the bakeries, food, and drinks which you could find in this coffee place.
